In its agricultural activities Zilor respects the areas meant for permanent preservation, is gradually reducing the burning off of sugar cane chaff, maintaining and expanding conservation and reforesting programs and diminishing the use of pesticides.

In its industrial activities it strives for more efficient means to use natural resources re-use and adequate destinations for production residues production of clean and renewable electric energy control of atmospheric polluants and making employees and partners conscious of these measures. These are the main instruments used by Zilor to have all its production in a sustainable manner promoting environmental preservation. In 2007 R$3.5 million were invested in environmental projects.

Zilor and its partners adhered to the Agro-Environmental Protocol established by the São Paulo state government with the intent to further develop good environmental tactics by the sugar-ethanol industries and anticipate the end of burning sugar cane chaff in mechanically viable areas by 2014 and in the other areas by 2017.
