Zilor produces two types of ethanol, anhydrous and hydrated. Both are sugar cane derived, and are a clean and renewable alternative that contributes to the reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Anhydrous ethyl ethanol fuel is added to automotive gasoline, while hydrated ethyl ethanol is used directly as automotive fuel. Zilor’s ethanol production is fully in accordance with the specifications of the local regulatory authorities.

The growing demand for ethanol by the worldwide energetic grid resulted, in 2007, in 84% of the vehicles sold in Brazil being “flex-fuel”, able to be powered by ethanol, gasoline, or an undefined mixture of both.

Nearly 442 million liters of anhydrous and hydrated ethanol were produced by Zilor during the 2007/2008 harvest, enough to fuel approximately 9 million passenger vehicles.
